We review what a router is and why you need it.  Like most other equipment you purchase, what you pay for is what you get. Most folks end up using a cheap home based router (even for businesses) that cost $30.  The issues with these units are they're slower, can't support the higher internet speeds more and more Internet Service Providers are dishing out, they're also more hackable and not as secured.  Plus, with most of these cheaper unit they include internal wireless antennas.  Their range is limited.  Especially if you have a larger home (or office), you'll need one with external antennas.  And something else to think about is a wireless router that support the AC band.  Having a router will even protect your requipment from hacks due to their internal firewall and NAT properties.
