Probably the easiest and most efficient (and cheapest) upgrade you can do to your computer, whether it's a laptop or desktop, is upgrading the hard drive. Most computers (even new ones) still come with mechanical hard drive (HDD). The new snazzy trend is an SSD, which stands for Solid State Drive or as what Jaison calls a Super Sexy Drive. Once you see the performance and understand the difference between an older mechanical drive and the new SSD's, you'll agree that name fits them perfectly. SSD's performance is 20x faster than a traditional hard drive. Plus, there are no moving parts so their failure rate is A LOT lower. They can take a beating and still work. Basically an SSD hard drive is a large (in data size) USB thumb drive. Other upgrades could include more RAM, a video card, however, most new computers, even the lower end units can handle most work nowadays without needing to upgrade the RAM (the "old" number 1 upgrade option). With that being said, it is advised to purchase a computer at least slightly ahead of the technology curve, so it'll last longer. Most folks buy a number computer, not because the components failed, but because they become slow for today's needs. By buying ahead of the tech curve, it'll last longer.
